I love a good gossip

And I’ve got a nose for a good story. So it’s only fitting that prior to journalism, my background was in public relations. Working in PR required the ability to create newsworthy angles, liaising with marketing teams and ad agencies, to understand the needs of individual brands and how to effectively target their key audiences.

Campaigns involved the re-branding of new and existing products for brands including Hovis, Bacardi, Orange and Eurostar, with strategic planning to entice a new consumer base without alienating existing customers.  I was also responsible for managing staff, client handling, budgeting, new business pitches, event management, co-ordinating press trips and photocalls.

I am currently employed by PR agencies and brands on a consultancy level. The commissions vary from copywriting and generating corporate and press materials — including press pack and background document materials, advertorials, features and surveys, competition copy, brochure copy, headlines and straplines – to advising brands on campaign strategy/development, presenting at conferences to brand managers about the role of the media/ PR and to PR agencies on how best to approach the media.
