It’s all about me

I graduated from Leeds University with a BA in Broadcasting Studies with Politics, a course run in conjunction with the BBC and incorporated the prestigious BBC director’s training courses in studio and single camera and scriptwriting.

Following a stint backpacking and working in Australia, and later a year in Canada spent working predominantly in sales, I began a career in PR. For seven years I worked for a number of high profile consumer PR agencies overseeing accounts for big consumer brands such as Bacardi Breezer, Eurostar, Hovis and Johnson & Johnson as well as tourist boards and travel clients and celebrities.

But an uncontrollable urge to write was calling, so in 2003, I decided to do the London College of Printing Postgraduate Diploma in Periodical Journalism.

On graduating I contributed on a freelance basis to various publications until my incessant networking paid off and I landed a job as editorial assistant on the industry bible Press Gazette. This was followed by five years at Tesco magazine as web/travel editor/senior sub-editor on the magazine and prior to this celebrity editor and senior features writer.

At present I’m freelance editor of Asda Magazine’s website. I also contribute to various national and regional publications including The Times and The Sun as well as online media. I am also currently employed by PR agencies and brands on a consultancy level. The commissions vary from generating corporate and press materials — including web copy, press pack and background document materials, advertorials, features and surveys, headlines and straplines – to advising brands on campaign strategy/development, presenting at conferences to brand managers about the role of the media/ PR and to PR agencies on how best to approach the media.
